Program Description

Significant advances have developed in the management of diabetes, including an increase in options of insulin therapies for our patients. The speakers will be discussing six of the most recent insulin therapies: Afrezza® (inhaled insulin), Toujeo® (insulin glargine U-300), Tresiba® (insulin degludec), Ryzodeg 70/30 (insulin degludec and insulin aspart), Basaglar® (insulin glargine) and FIAsp (ultra-rapid acting formulation of Novolog). Topics to be covered for each insulin include: efficacy/safety trials, PK/PD profiles, pen differences (units/pen, days stable unrefrigerated, max dose in a single injection, "hold" injection seconds). To conclude the session, participants will be asked to apply the information to a patient case where we will identify key methods of personalizing the insulin regimens to meet the patient’s individual routine.

Program Objectives

1. Compare and contrast the new insulin therapies including their equivalent mechanisms
2. Describe a place in therapy for the new insulin therapies
3. Apply the information on new insulin therapies to a patient case
